Our speaker, Andre Williams is known for his running success but his story as an athlete and a role model is ingrained in the neighborhood of Church Hill.  His family moved to Oakwood Avenue when he was in 3rd grade and he attended George Mason elementary, had a brief stint at Mosby Middle school, started high school his freshman year at John F Kennedy before graduating at Armstrong High School.  At age 7 he joined the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club where he honed his athletic and competitive prowess in other sports such as basketball, football, swimming and billiards over 10 years as a member.  Growing up in Church Hill in the late 80s, Andre was the epitome of his tough environment while using the positive resources in his neighborhood such as Armstrong High and the Boys and Girls Club to pave his way to a full athletic scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
