The Capitol Run is a 3-mile morning group run that will start and finish at the entrance to the Capitol Visitor's Center (10th and Bank Streets). All runners and walkers are welcome.
The Capitol Run is a FREE event, but you are required to Sign Up and agree to the waiver.
NOTE: Start time for the November run is 6:30 AM.
The Capitol Run is organized by OnTheSquareVA with the support of the Richmond Road Runners Club.
The 3-mile group run will start and finish at the entrance to the Capitol Visitor's Center (10th and Bank Streets). Runners and walkers will head south on 10th Street to Brown's Island, cross the James River on the T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge, follow the flood wall to the 14th Street Bridge, cross the river to Shockhoe Slip, and turn on Bank Street to end at the Visitor Center.
Water will be available only at the start/finish area during the cooler months. Please carry your own fluids if you need hydration mid-run.
Please wear a reflective or high-visibility vest or clothing and/or wear a headlamp or other light source to help drivers see you as we run on downtown streets at sunrise.
In consideration of the safety of all participants, the following are not allowed on the course during the group run: baby joggers, baby strollers, animals on or off leash, skateboards, inline or roller skates, or bicycles. The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged on this run. To enjoy all that our run has to offer and for the safety of all participants, RRRC encourages a headphone-free environment during the Capitol Run.
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR SAFETY. BE ALERT, WATCH FOR TRAFFIC AND PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR FELLOW RUNNERS.
Parking can be found nearby at the following:
Meters -- A limited number of metered public parking spaces (2 hours) are located on the west side of 10th Street, between Main and Bank Streets; on Bank Street, between Governor and 14th Streets; on the south side of Main Street, between 9th and 12th Streets; and on 12th Street between Main and Bank Streets.
Lots and Decks -- Paid parking lots and garages are located nearby on 8th and Grace Street and 7th and Marshall Streets. Downloadable maps of nearby parking lots and decks are available.
These group runs will occur rain or shine. Make your own best decision about participating if the weather on the morning of a run is not to your liking.
We will cancel the group run if there is lightning in the downtown area at the start of the run or if the downtown area will be under one of the following National Weather Service advisories or warnings at the start of the run: High Wind Advisory, Tornado Warning, Severe Thunderstorm Warning, or Flood Warning. We will send an email to all registered runners announcing any cancellation. Check your email before heading out that morning if the weather conditions/forecasts are unfavorable.
