The Back The Blue 5K was initially started in May of 2016 in honor of Trooper Chad Dermyer (EOW 3/31/2016). On February 4, 2019, Trooper Lucas Dowell was respectfully added to our honor list. Trooper Dermyer & Trooper Dowell both lost their lives in the line of duty protecting and serving our community! They were both incredible Virginia State Police officers who showed courage, strength, compassion, & are still greatly missed!
The Dermeyer Dowell Scholarship Fund was created in May of 2019 when Trooper Lucas Dowell’s family graciously donated the money back to us. This scholarship is awarded every year to a Virginia high school senior that is the child of a Law Enforcement Officer!
We hope to see you each year at our annual Back The Blue 5K where we’ll show our appreciation for all Law Enforcement Officers & honor our fallen heroes!
