Description
In celebration of the 240th anniversary of the victory at Yorktown, the York County Historical Museum presents the inaugural Yorktown Day virtual Half Marathon, 4.5 Mile Command Post Run, 800 yard Battery Blitz and 400 yard Redoubt Charge.
The Half Marathon distance represents the 13 miles between Williamsburg where George Washington first arrived in Williamsburg, VA in mid September, 1781 and and General Lord Charles Cornwalis' headquarters in Yorktown, VA.
The 4.5 mile Command Post Run represents the distance between General George Washington's and General Lord Charles Cornwalis' headquarters in Yorktown during the siege.
The 800 yard Battery Blitz represents the distance between the first parallel where French and American batteries began bombarding the British defense of Yorktwon on October 9, 1781.
The 400 yard Redoubt Dash represents the distance that Colonel Alexander Hamilton's troops covered in a daring night time raid with bayonets only on British redoubt 10.
Runners may choose any race, complete the distance and receive a custom finisher medal and T-shirt. Race swag will be mailed for an additional shipping fee, or it may be picked up at the York County Historical Museum during the times and dates specified.
