Parking Lot Flagger High Priority

Details

This volunteer's primary responsibility is to work together with the other volunteer to basically direct cars in and then establish when a lot is full and close it. There are 2 lots near the short course start and the finish line on the beach. Once those are full parking lot flaggers will just direct traffic to park 1-mile away at the Hamlin Lake Beach and walk back.

This position gets a shirt, bright vest, light baton. The shirt they can keep, the other items need to be returned. If this volunteer sticks around, they can have lunch at the finish line later as well.

RACE DAY - CROSSING GUARD TEAM

Crossing Guard - Bryant & Rath High Priority

Details

This volunteer will be at the intersection of Bryant and Rath near downtown Ludington. The athletes will be running on the right side of the road and need to cross the road into the parking lot and onto the forest path here. The crossing guard DOES NOT stop vehicular traffic but instead warns athletes about cars (and they stop) and looks out for their well-being. The crossing guard stands on the right side/shoulder of the road and interacts with athletes, never in the middle of the road.

This position gets a shirt, bright vest, light baton. The shirt they can keep, the other items need to be returned. If this volunteer sticks around, they can have lunch later at the finish line as well.

This volunteer will be on Piney Ridge Rd at the coordinates shown. Parking is available in a very small dirt pull off on the left side of the road (by forest). There's also a small uphill trailhead there. The athletes will be running on the right side of the road and need to cross the road onto the forest path here. The crossing guard DOES NOT stop vehicular traffic but instead warns athletes about cars (and they stop) and looks out for their well-being. This volunteer will be on the pedestrian running/cycling path where it crosses over the road to the other side to go near the river. The athletes will be running on the paved path and need someone to lookout for them so there's no problem with cars. The crossing guard stands on the path just before the road and interacts with athletes, never in the middle of the road.

This kayaker has a very short first shift so this particular position covers 2 shifts in order to make it equal with the other shifts. If you signup for this position PLEASE also signup for shift 7.

This position has a total of $125 stipend that comes with it (that's total for BOTH shifts). If you provide your own kayak, paddle, and PFD we will make that stipend $150. This is not hourly pay, just a thank you for volunteering for one of our vital safety positions. If you do not have a kayak we will provide one and get it to the location you will be using it from. If you do have one we expect you to get it to and from the location.

Each position will receive a bright colored neon yellow vest and whistle from us to wear while in the water and return afterwards. Each kayak will also receive a volunteer shirt and meal. The meal will be at the finish that's close by after the shift.

This position is for certified lifeguards. We will provide a bright colored vest, whistle, event shirt, and lunch. This position also pays $75-$100 depending on where you are assigned and how long you stay. This is a general position. PLEASE NOTE that the time shown in the time slot is for the entire race but you ARE NOT expected to stay the entire race. The shifts are shorter. We will reach out just before the race to let you know what position you have and the time.

Medical 1 + Roaming (& Finish) High Priority

THIS POSITION HAS 2 SHIFTS (Shift 1 & Finish Line) and is expected to progress with the race in-between. Because it's the longest total in shifts it has a slightly higher stipend. IF YOU SIGNUP FOR THIS SHIFT YOU MUST ALSO SIGNUP FOR THE FINISH LINE SHIFT.

This medical team position receives a total of $400 stipend for both shifts combined. This is NOT hourly pay but simply a thank you for helping out at the race.

We will provide each medical team member with a blue backpack containing a med pack with all necessary supplies to do the job. A bicycle IS NOT necessary for this medical position. We will also provide each medical team member with a bright red vest to wear during their shift. The packs and vests must be returned to get your stipend. Each team member gets an event shirt and meal as a thank you.

Onsite duties include athlete evaluation (when necessary), aiding in any basic medical cases and working closely with other medics, our medical director, possibly kayaks and boats, and in emergencies, calling 911 and administering care until EMS arrives on scene to take over.

Finish Line Volunteers High Priority

Details

These volunteers will park in the main parking lot (or wherever there is available parking) and find the finish flags and inflatable at the beach house on the Ludington State Park Beach. Responsibilities will including helping to setup the finish line area, organizing merchandise and finisher items, food, etc. Once the athletes start finishing handing out of items is key.

Volunteers in this position get a shirt and lunch.
