Course Guards

Race Course Guards - General Information

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

This is course guard general information. Ignore that volunteer tab here: To sign up, select a specific location detailed below. Thanks.

Course guards ensure the safety of runners by preventing traffic from entering the course (streets are also barricaded) & they cheer on runners.

Check in between 7:45 and 8:15 to get a safety vest, stop sign and confirm your position. Travel to your guard position before the 9am race starts.

Course guards on Clark and Yellowstone only work the 5k race which starts at 9am. Course guards on 2nd and 3rd work both races. (The Mile race starts at 10am)

When finished, return to the check-in area to turn in your vest and stop sign. Collect your shirt, a snack and our thanks!

Cal 911 for emergencies. Say you are with Run! Turkey Run!. For non emergency contact the volunteer coordinator.

Course Marshal #1 3rd and N 29th

Details

Be at location by 9:10am. When the 5k runners are inbound~9:15am~ direct the lead bike and vehicle and runners SOUTH onto 29th. Do not let them continue to 28th!

When the Milers are inbound ~10:05am~ direct the lead bike and vehicle EAST to 28th. Do not let them turn south to 29th.

Stay for both the 5k and Mile start. Do not leave until the sweep vehicle comes by after the Mile.

Details

Be at location by 9:15am. Ask Mile runners to wait east of the barricades on 2nd Ave. Shortly before 10am, assist the starter in leading the Mile runners to the Mile start on the west side of 32nd.

Ask any 5k participants on 2nd Ave, west of the Mile start, to move onto the sidewalk.

Stay for both the 5k start (9am) and Mile start (10am). Do not leave until Mile race starts.

Finish Line Course Guard

Details

The Finish Line Course Guard ensures the smooth flow of traffic at the finish line and guides the First Place M/F finishers from each race to the award table to claim their prize.

Travel to your guard position before the 9am race start. You will remain in place for both races: 5K starts at 9am and the Mile starts at 10am. Guide finishers around the Credit Union building so they can pick up a finisher glass if they want one. Keep finishers from cutting through onto 31st St. Help single out the top male and female finisher from each race and guide them to the awards table (coordinate with timer). After the last walkers pass, at around 10:30am, you are finished.

Church Guidance 1

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

Beginning at about 8:30, direct parishioners coming south down the alley across 3rd to St Patrick's parking lot. Do not allow traffic to head east or west on 3rd Ave. Discourage race participants from parking in church's lot. After 9am, place cones/candles across mouth of alley on the south side of 3rd Ave to prevent parishioners from exiting onto 3rd Ave.

Packet Pick Up

Packet Pickup Volunteer

Details

Helping with Packet Pickup the day before the race. Volunteers will either assigning bibs or hand out shirts.

If you are assigning bibs, you'll need to have RunSignUp's free RaceDay CheckIn app (instructions to follow). If you are using your own smart phone, we will have a guest wifi password so you aren't using your data plan.

Water Table

Awards Table

Details

Pass out awards to runners. Look at results page for race, or get results information from the timer who is located near by. Top 3 finishers in each age group are entitled to a medal. Top male and female finisher in each of the 2 races will get a special top prize. The finish line course guard will help identify those top finishers in each race.

Food Table Host

Lead Cyclist for 5K

Details

Check in with task coordinator between 8:00 and 8:15 for instructions and vest. Travel to the 5K course start (2nd Ave & 30th St) to be in place by 8:50am (race starts at 9am). Lead the 5k runners around the course and to the finish area. Course map on race website. Return to the check-in area to turn in your vest and collect your shirt, a snack and our thanks!
