Details

Set up will be broken into sections, including the beginning section from LTBT trail head to and through Blacktail ski area, middle section on FTBT between the union of the LTBT and FTBT and Herron Park, and the last section within Herron Park. Brian M will coordinate the process.

1st aid station support

Details

This aid station will be at the summit lodge of Blacktail Ski Area. Racers and volunteers will have access to the lodge's bathrooms. Volunteers will also be able to get out of the weather at the back entry of the lodge. Brian M will provide supplies for the aid station, but the aid station leader(s) may request or bring special items if they so choose (keep receipts for reimbursement).

2nd aid station support

Details

This aid station will be the second and just before the half way point on the race. This station has a pit toilet and a large parking area. Any racers that want to drop out will be able to at this station. Brian M will coordinate with the aid station leader for arranging transportation to racers, if needed. Cut off at this station is at 1 pm, which volunteers will need to enforce. There is no vehicle access (except emergency vehicles) for the last 14 miles after this station.

Brian M will provide supplies for the aid station, but the aid station leader(s) may request or bring special items if they so choose (keep receipts for reimbursement).

3rd aid station support

Details

This aid station will be the third and most remote the racers will encounter at around 17 miles. You will need specific directions and gate access key to access this station with a truck. Brian M will provide supplies for the aid station, but the aid station leader(s) may request or bring special items if they so choose (keep receipts for reimbursement).

4th aid station support

Details

This 4th aid station will be at mile 20, when racers often begin to fade. Ideally some of the volunteers will have basic first aid training. Brian M will provide supplies for the aid station, but the aid station leader(s) may request or bring special items if they so choose (keep receipts for reimbursement).

Near Chase Overlook (as far as a vehicle can drive).

5th aid station

Details

This last aid station will need to be staffed in part by medical personnel because racers are often a bit fragile and can bonk around this time. Though it is all downhill, some racers have had to drop out at this point in the past. Brian M will provide supplies for the aid station, but the aid station leader(s) may request or bring special items if they so choose (keep receipts for reimbursement).

Finish area food prep and other tasks

Details

Volunteers at the finish will help with organizing snack food for racers and volunteers, hand out finisher medals.

Medical personnel for finish line and aid stations

Details

These volunteers will need first aid training and their own medical kit. If any supplies are used on racers from the medical kits, Brian M or Brian R will ensure these supplies are replaced after the race wraps up (likely in the following week or two). Contact Dr. Deb Hoffman at (858)837-0707 or debahoffman@yahoo.com so she can coordinate all medical personnel.

Details

This person (or couple) will follow well behind the last racer to pick up all pin flags and other trail markers. They will also notify aid station volunteers that everyone is off the course.

Course Marshall - Chase Overlook

This position will be important for directing tired racers on the proper loop at Chase Overlook in order to prevent them from cutting the loop off and thus shortening their race. Volunteers will want to bring a camp chair, water, food, rain gear and other layers and perhaps an umbrella to provide shade or protection from rain.

Details

This task will involve being at Herron Park at no later than 5:45 am to rope off the main lot to redirect everyone to the horse stables area, then to help people park efficiently in the horse stables parking area. You may also be asked to help out with packet and bib hand outs

Volunteers in these positions will be directed by the coordinator of key intersections in the first 7 miles of the race. This year's coordinator is Nathan Russell. Volunteers will want to bring a camp chair, water, food, rain gear and other layers and perhaps an umbrella to provide shade or protection from rain.
