Details

We need about 300 volunteers to help us stand guard at every intersection along the race course. Closure guards will ensure that "Street Closed" signs are in place the morning of the event and then stand guard to direct runners regarding the route around the course.
You will report to a Course Commander. Time commitment is to attend a 1 hour training session before the race and then be at your station at your designated intersection by 7:30am, Sunday September 18 and stay at your intersection until the designated "street open" time arrives. Depending on how long you can volunteer Sunday morning, we can assign you to a "start-end" intersection that will re-open sometime around 8:00-8:30am or a "finish-end" intersection that wouldn't re-open until sometime closer to 10:00-10:30am. You'll be given a T-Shirt and all other course materials. We just need you to show up (preferably with a cell phone) and hang out to keep the runners safe.

Race Course Commanders

September 22, 2024

We need 36 volunteers to be in command of the 300 volunteers that will be on-station at all the street intersection closures. You will have from 3 to 9 volunteers assigned to report to you. Your job is to communicate with your reports a few days before the run via telephone to be sure they are still committed to doing their jobs. Then, the morning of the event, you'll inspect intersections and report back to headquarters any developing problems or missing volunteers. Time commitment is a one hour commander training session approximately two weeks before the event, a couple of hours to call or meet with the closure guards that will be assigned to you in order to train them and re-confirm their commitment to show up on race day, and then from 6:30am to 10:30am on Sunday Sept 18 during the race. You will need to have a cell phone, but otherwise we provide any materials and a safety-colored "Race Official" T-shirt.
