Day of Race: Along the Course Monitors

Race Course Street Closure Guards

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

We need about 300 volunteers to help us stand guard at every intersection along the race course. Closure guards will ensure that "Street Closed" signs are in place the morning of the event and then stand guard to direct traffic to detour routes around the course. Time commitment is to attend a 1/2 hour (+-) training session before the race and then be on-station at your designated intersection by 6:40am, Sunday August 3rd and then stay at your intersection until the designated "street open" time arrives. Depending on how long you can volunteer Sunday morning, we can assign you to a "start-end" intersection that will re-open sometime around 7:30-8:00am or a "finish-end" intersection that wouldn't re-open until sometime closer to 9:30-10:00am. You'll be given a safety-color "Race Official" T-Shirt and all other road closure materials. We just need you to show up (preferably with a cell phone) and hang out to keep the runners safe.

Race Course Street Closure Commanders

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

We need 36 volunteers to be in command of the 300 volunteers that will be on-station at all the street intersection closures. You will have from 3 to 9 volunteers assigned to report to you. Your job is to communicate with your reports a few days before the run via telephone to be sure they are still committed to doing their jobs. Then, the morning of the event, you'll inspect intersections and report back to headquarters any developing problems or missing volunteers. Time commitment is a one hour commander training session approximately two weeks before the event, a couple of hours to call or meet with the closure guards that will be assigned to you in order to train them and re-confirm their commitment to show up on race day, and then from 6:30am to 10:30am on Sunday August 3rd during the race. You will need to have a cell phone, but otherwise we provide any materials and a safety-colored "Race Official" T-shirt.

Race Day Job Teams

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

We need 30 volunteers to do various jobs the morning of the race helping to coordinate/setup/run registration check ins, sweat-suit drop and pickup, start line and finish line control, litter patrol, etc. Time commitment is to attend a 1-2 hour training session one evening the week before the race and then be at MLK & Alberta from 6:15am - 11:00am on Sunday August 3rd. Some of the volunteers could leave earlier if necessary. You will be provided with a Race Offical safety-orange T-Shirt and any other materials necessary to perform your function.

Race Day Job Team Commanders

At least 1 more volunteer needed.

Details

We need 7 volunteers to be team leaders of the Race Day Job Teams. Your job is to communicate with the volunteers assigned to your team to be sure they are attending training and committed to being on time the morning of the race. Then you will lead them in executing the functions assigned to your Job team. We provide you with any materials needed to accomplish your team's goal. Your time commitment is to attend a 2 hour Commander training session one evening two weeks prior to the event; then attend a 1-2 hour training session one evening the week before the event where the Job Team members are trained and introduced to you as their commander; then be at MLK & Alberta from 6:15am - 11:00am on Sunday August 3rd.

Time committment is to attend a phone training session sometime during the two weeks prior to the event and then be on station out on the course from 6:30 am through till your part of the race course closes (8:00am to 11am depending on your station).
