Description

Teams of 4 will compete in a cross country relay with each member running a 2 mile leg although the 1st and 4th runner will run additional distance from the Start line and to the Finish line.  The course is mostly grassy cross country lanes that are used for the Skagit County High School XC Championships although in reverse direction as run in October.

Duos, or teams of 2, will be allowed but runners will be required to run alternate legs and NOT consecutive legs.

THIS IS A FREE EVENT!!!  Now just because it is a free event doesn't mean it is not a serious endeavor. Racers will get an accurately measured course as well as a precisely timed finish.  Plus members of the winning teams will get a 3" etched wood medal which is highlighted below. (I did get an award budget from County Parks and Rec!)

The course will be open for 80 minutes therefore a team must average no more than 10 minute mile pace.  Not a walking event like the Northern State Winter Runs.

This race is limited to 40 teams.  If less than 15 TEAMS entered then the race will be CANCELLED!   There will be no refunds......

Course Map

All runners will run the SAME 2 Mile Loop.  Just the 1st and 4th legs will have about 330+ extra feet due to beginning the run from the START area and ending the relay to the FINISH AREA.  This will make the total race just over 8 Miles!

Team Competitions

My thoughts on team competitions are as follows:

Four person teams will include:  High School, College Level, Open, and Club: Men, Women, and Coed Teams.  Also a  Family Foursome Team of any mix.  Also a  Masters and Seniors division which can be mixed.  And if you are looking for a team, I created a Put Me in Coach category where people will be place into a team so that they may participate in the race..

As for Duos, there will be Mens, Women, and Coed Duos.  Only requirement for the two person team is that one member runs 1/3 while the other runs 2/4.  No consecutive runs without an exchange.

Looking for a Team? Put Me in Coach!

So you really want to run a 2 mile XC race but can't find 3 other runners. No problem.  I created a Put Me in Coach Division where runners signed up with out a team will be randomly put into to form a team.  You just sign up under Put Me in Coach.

How to sign up your team for this FREE relay race

Go ahead and register now and if we need to make team adjustments, we can do that later via email.  After you have signed up for the race and signed the wavier it will ask you about your team choice.  See the photo down below.  If you are the first, you will create the team.  Otherwise, you will join your team that has been registered.

Team Name, Members of the Team, and Competition Division.  I will arrange the finish sheet for each competition from that information.

*** There will only be a finish time so each team will be responsible for keeping their own splits.  Only the #4 runner will get a finish bib which will be attached to the finish board with a finishing time at the completion of the race.  (keep in mind that this is a FREE event and not lots of perks.  Just an honest course, an accurate time, and lots of fun!)

Team Awards

Event though this is a FREE event, Skagit Parks and Recreation will be providing awards for the winning teams. The below design will be 3 inch wood type medals with the design etched into the wood.  Very similar to the awards handed out for the Winter Trail Run winners.

EXCHANGE ZONE

Exchange zone will be on the road after the turn to the finish but before the turn up the road to the barns.  It will be marked with cones and runners will see their runner head up the road which means they are less than a half mile from the exchange zone.  It will be well marked!

Teams will just touch hands or high five or whatever you wish to do.  The exchange zone is an honor system.  No wrist bands, no batons, or no badges.... cause we don't need no stinkin badges.

Team Tent Area

There will be places around the picnic area where teams can set up team tents if they wish.  I will designate that area later although local high school teams know what area I am talking about.

Wild in Woolley 8 Mile XC Relay is a Skagit County Parks and Recreation Event
