1K Kiddo's Race
Information
Brrrrr... baby, it's cold outside. Good.
Around here, we don't spend winter hiding under blankets and counting down the days until spring. We get outside and celebrate it! The Waukesha JanBoree is all about embracing everything that makes a Wisconsin winter great, and the Frosty 5K is your chance to be part of the action.
A longtime JanBoree favorite and a proud stop on the Wisconsin Chilly Willy Winter Run Series, the Frosty 5K invites runners, walkers, families, and winter enthusiasts alike to bundle up, lace up, and tackle the season head-on.
The fast, flat, two-lap course winds through beautiful Frame Park and along the scenic Fox River, offering a perfect setting for PR hunters, casual runners, and anyone looking to shake off a little cabin fever. Crisp air, frozen breath, and the crunch of winter beneath your feet... this is what January running is all about.
And when you cross the finish line, the fun is far from over. JanBoree fills the entire weekend with more than 35 events and activities throughout Waukesha, creating one giant winter celebration for all ages.
Sure, it'll be cold. That's kind of the point.
Every January, hundreds of runners trade excuses for extra layers and prove that Wisconsin winters aren't something to endure. They're something to enjoy.
So zip up that jacket, pull on those gloves, and join us for a No Mopin', Nose Nippin', Cold Snappin' Good Time at the Frosty 5K!
What is rucking?
Rucking is a physical activity that involves walking or hiking with a weighted backpack (called a rucksack). The term comes from the military, where soldiers train and operate carrying heavy loads over long distances. In civilian fitness and recreation, rucking is gaining popularity as a versatile and low-impact workout. We now offer it at all Chilly Willy Events!
More information about rucking.
Although the Ruck Divisions are timed, it’s not competitive, and there are no age group awards. However, ruckers will still receive a finisher woodle!

Pets
A few frosty-friendly reminders:
As much as we'd love to see Fido tackle a winter 5K, dogs are not allowed in Frame Park per City of Waukesha ordinance.
And while Yaktrax are a winter runner's best friend outdoors, please remove them before entering the Schuetze Recreation Center. They don't play nicely with indoor floors.
Thanks for helping us keep everything running smoothly so everyone can enjoy a No Mopin', Nose Nippin', Cold Snappin' Good Time!
What does a Frosty 5K run look like?
Course
The 5K course is super flat and fast and accessible to runners or all ages and abilities. The course is two laps around the Fox River using paved trails within the park. Walkers should stay right so that faster runners can pass them. All runners will run by the finish line after their first lap (not through) -- on their second lap, runners will run through the finish line. In order to accommodate a shared start/finish line, the 5K course is slightly longer (about 5.5 km, or 3.4 miles).
Walkers will complete one lap around the park.
Aid Station
There will be one aid station on course at the finish line (see course map). Runners will pass the aid station approximately 1.2 miles into their run. The aid station will have water. After the race, you can find water and Hot Chocolate in the Schuetze Rec Center where packet pickup was.
Everyone who is registered by noon Friday, January 9 will be guaranteed a custom cotton unisex Frosty 5K T-shirt. After that, T-shirts will be available while online supplies last. Any extra shirts will be distributed after the race on a first come, first served basis. About t-shirts.
Upgrade to a long sleeve for only $5.95.
