FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a "Virtual Race?"
A virtual race is an event where participants complete a self-determined distance by running, walking, or using other forms of physical activity, but unlike traditional races where all participants gather at a specific location and time, participants in a virtual race complete the distance in their own chosen location.
While it is not required, one way participants in the Walk Arm in Arm with Refugees Virtual Race Fundraiser will be “connected” is by tagging Arm in Arm Outreach’s social media accounts, direct messaging any pics you would like to share, or using our race hashtags on Instagram. Find out more about how to connect across the world via the internet below!
Do I run by myself or with a group?
It’s up to you! Even if you are racing alone, you are “virtually” running or walking with participants across the country and globe! But if you feel so inclined to gather a group to spread love and awareness, that will only increase the fun in our opinion!
Do I have to run?
You can run, walk, stroll, bike, swim or shimmy if you so desire! The fun is in doing it together and sharing the cause with others to raise funds and awareness.
How far am I supposed to run/walk/ride/swim?
There is no set distance, you choose!
Is there a set fundraising goal?
You are not personally expected to raise a certain amount of money. We are grateful for every hard-earned dollar that participants are able to give and raise… And as a volunteer-run organization, we promise your donations go straight to real individuals and families in need across the world.
Will people be getting together in my area to run?
The more the merrier, we like to say! It is up to you if you would like to organize a group in your area, we highly encourage it! However, if you are looking for company and aren’t sure where to start, reach out to us at info@arminarmoutreach.org and we can see who else is running near you and facilitate communication (if both parties agree).
How do we make this fun if we are just out running by ourselves?
Share the joy online! You will feel connected by sharing any details you feel comfortable sharing (even if it’s anonymously). For example, you may want to share pictures of yourself on your own socials and tag us (see instructions below) so that we can share. Make sure to let your followers know WHY you are doing what you’re doing and how they can donate too!
Part of the fun is knowing we are all out there spreading the word and making a difference at the same time, regardless of where we are in the world.
How do we connect to the community of participants the day of the race if we are all in different locations?
We would love for you to share your experience online, if this is something you also feel comfortable doing. There are a few ways to do this and you can share as little or as much as you like. Check in via social media all day to see others who have shared from where they are. (We are sharing general details, of course, and only with permission.)
The important thing is that you spread the word and how others can help!
Here are some ways to feel connected:
First make sure you follow us on Instagram (@arminarmoutreach) and Facebook (facebook.com/arminarmoutreach)!
On Instagram: Post your “racing” pics to your own Instagram account on “race day” (April 13, 2024) and tag us using the handle @arminarmoutreach so that we can share them to IG Stories.
Also on Instagram: Use the hashtags #iwalkarminarm #arminarmoutreach #aiavirtualrace #aiawalkarminarm #walkarminarmwithrefugees on your IG posts.
On Facebook: Post your “racing” pics to your own Facebook account and tag us using the handle @armininarmoutreach on “race day” so that we can share them to our own page.
Even if you don’t want to share your pictures online, please tune in and you will feel connected when you see others joining with you for a great cause!
Remember, race day is Saturday, April 13, 2024 (but if you can't race that day, any time you can race around that week is just as good and just as exciting! It's not just about the race, it's about raising awareness about the refugees)!
