19-21st November 2021, Celebrating Día de Muertos
Join us for our first hybrid virtual/in person fun run/walk. November's theme is The Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos/Día de los Muertos). Choose a distance to walk or run, pick a fancy dress costume and take part either in the comfort of your own area at anytime over the weekend, or meet us at Emmerentia at 09:00 on the 20th November 2021 to run/walk with others (meet at the main entrance gates on Thomas Bowler Street). Prizes available for the best dressed participant, so pick your costume and paint your brightest face to best represent Día de Muertos.
The Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos or Día de los Muertos) is a holiday celebrated on the 1st and 2nd of November (although we will be walking or running on the 19-21st). It originated and is mostly observed in Mexico but also in other places, especially by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. Although associated with the Catholic celebrations of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day, it has a much less solemn tone and is portrayed as a holiday of joyful celebration rather than mourning. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and to remember friends and family members who have died. These celebrations can take a humorous tone, as celebrants remember funny events and anecdotes about the departed. (for more info, google Día de Muertos)
It's that easy, pick a distance, pick an outfit, complete the challenge, upload your pictures and results to the website and social media with the hashtags: #SASAsleepwalkers #letsgetmoving #workwellness #getbusyliving
