Adam Shorter

Hey everyone!!
I'm Adam, The Metal Marathoner!!
I've been running since 2014 and am still putting the miles behind. I am always proud to serve as an ambassador and promote my favorite races and run with you folks! If I'm not running I'm probably moshing or crowd-surfing at a Death/Thrash metal show somewhere. If you see me, feel free to say hey but you better be LOUD over my headphones!
Run hills not your mouth!!

Brian Shelor

Brian is a hometown guy that has lived in Salem for the past 49 years. His twin brother motivated him in 2013 to compete in his first 5k which was the Drumstick Dash. In 2016, Brian ran in the first Salem Half Marathon. He was super excited to hear that his hometown was hosting a half marathon! That day still holds a special place in his heart because not only was it his first half marathon, but his niece Lilly was born on the same day! Brian joined the C&C runners in 2016 and still is heavily involved in the group. “Marion Childress is such an inspiration and incredible person, joining the group is the best decision I have ever made.” Brian loves the family atmosphere of the group; it motivates him to keep striving for excellence every day. Running has been a life changer and a good social outlet for him. He would like to thank God who allows him to have this ability. Brian looks forward to seeing everyone training throughout the year and especially on race day!

Nathan Wooden

I'm Nathaniel Wooden — a husband, father of two, and lifelong runner. I've been running since I was a kid and recently began competing in triathlons, including finishing an Ironman in Chattanooga. While the marathon is my favorite distance, I’ve set my sights on running more ultras after completing the Double Blue Ridge Marathon. One of my big goals is to take on the Leadville 100 and the 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days challenge.

God has blessed me with some unforgettable moments, like winning the 2022 Blue Ridge Marathon and running the Boston Marathon. The running community in Roanoke is incredibly supportive — from local races to groups like the C&C Runners, there’s something special about the energy and encouragement here, and I’m proud to be part of it!

Dan Werner

I started running more a few years back and am now addicted. Thanks to the great running community, especially C&C Runners, I was able to complete my first marathon at age 50. I have now tried the 50K and 100K. Who knows where this running journey will take me.

I have done the Salem Half marathon the last 2 years and plan to run it again this year. I am excited to be chosen as a 2025 Race Ambassador and looking forward to helping more runners participate in this race. I love that we have so many races locally!

Haley Sharp

I was born and raised in Salem, VA and have always had a love of running. I grew up playing soccer and continued playing at Ferrum College for two years then eventually joined the cross country team. I met my husband through running and even ran a few ultra marathons together. I am a member of Upward Running Run Club and our local Run for God Roanoke team. Now married with two children, I know how hard it can be for moms to take time for themselves. I took many years off from running after having kids but recently got back into running regularly. I hope I can help inspire other moms to get out there! You can do hard things! I'm super excited to be an ambassador for such a great race and can't wait to see you out there in October!

Dawn Parris

I’m Dawn Parris! Wife, animal mama, and lover of the outdoors and running! Born and raised in Roanoke, Va. I’ve been in the running community for several years now and it’s the running community that keeps me coming back! I love all the encouragement and support we all offer one another and I have made some wonderful friendships throughout this journey. I’ve done numerous 5k’s, 10k’s, and half’s. Completed three marathons and I have dipped my toes in the triathlon world with a sprint distance as well as a 70.3. The Salem Half Marathon is one of my favorite races. I have done this race since 2019 and I am excited to have been chosen to be a 2025 ambassador for it. I love and hate the hills but it really is such a beautiful run and well supported race through Salem!

Keya Price

My name is Keya Price. I moved to Roanoke in 2018 and fell in love with the area immediately. You can find me anywhere from the greenway to the AT. You will also frequently see my dog, Duke, who loves to run as much as me.
I love road and trail running and have been mostly focused on ultras the past few years. The running community here has been so impactful for me, and I look forward to continuing to spread that joy and support local races.

Chris Arnold

I have been running since 2015 after being diagnosed with a heart murmur due to my weight. Since then, I have been a regular runner getting in 3 runs a week (normally) either in practice runs or races. I completed the 2020 Triple Crown despite a pulled hamstring & torn thigh muscle over training for the Salem Half requiring physical therapy. I completed both the Blue Ridge Relay & 10K, Hokie Half, both the Salem Half & 8K, and the Star City 10K in 2021 along with several local races in SW & Central VA.

In 2021, I was selected to be an ambassador to the Salem Half. 1st race as an ambassador ever. After completing it, I was told I was the 3rd highest ambassador in recruiting participants. I am regularly in the top 5 of recruiting ambassadors for Salem and Star City despite not being on Facebook. I have been an ambassador for the Salem Half 4 times, the Star City Half 3 times, and Martinsville Half in 2022.

Since my injury, I’ve realized I don’t have to be the fastest runner to participate. As long as I am out there doing my best, completing the race will always be the ultimate goal. I completed Triple Crowns (2020 & 2022) and the Sprint Triple Crown in 2023 & 2024. I regularly run in Salem at least once a week on parts of either the Salem Half or Salem Distance 10K routes.

Kimberly Kalstrom

Hello everyone My name is Kimberly Kalstrom I am excited to be an ambassador for The Salem Half Marathon Race. I have lived in Virginia most of my life. I love living here locally because my grown children and grandchildren live close by.

My first 5K was The Big Run during the summer of 2018. I was so proud of myself for completing that race. It was a real joy because my first grandchild was just born. I dedicated the race to his honor. My family was there to celebrate with me. It was a special day.

Shortly after that race I joined The C&C Runners Group. The encouragement from my C&C teammates, my friends and family has helped me greatly. Celebrating my teammates achievements is just as important as celebrating my own achievements. I am thankful to God for providing the opportunities and right people along the way.

Participating in races has helped me to track my progress. Being more active has helped me to maintain a healthy weight after years of being a yo yo dieter with thyroid challenges. Before I started training I could not walk across the room without becoming short of breath. I had to take things little by little.

Presently I have crossed the finish line of many races. Recently I won second place in my 55-59 age group at The 5K Shamrock Hill Race. I love the Salem Half Marathon Race because its fun and challenging. Challenges makes me stronger for the journey ahead. I can’t wait to see you there on race day!

During my free time I take nature walks. I picked up my camera to motivate myself to keep walking. Little did I realize that it would lead me to receiving my photography degree from New York Institute of Photography! I have taken thousands of photos! I love sharing my photos to encourage others to go outside and become more active.

Being more active has helped me to feel more capable, confident, calmer and stronger. My personal story has been shared on Today.com Everyday Health and People One Health. Presently I am writing a book about my health journey.
