Club Championship Program

Club Championship

The Strider Club Championships are something of a hidden gem.  The program is free to all Striders.  You run our Strider races you were probably planning on running anyway and have a great chance of winning an award for your efforts!  For years, the award has been a personalized, etched pint glass. Sign up now and you could be raising your Champ pint glass next January!!  Feel free to direct questions about the program to Dennis at shoeboxx50@gmail.com.

Points & Scoring

Points scored for placing within your Club Championship Age Group (not the race age group)  You are only competing against those signed up for the Club Championship

1st  - 100pts
2nd - 80pts
3rd - 60 pts
4th - 40 pts
5th - 30 pts
6th - 20 pts
7th - 10 pts

You can sign up for all three series but limited to a single award.  In simple terms you will get the award in the series you earned your highest award.  In the case of ties there is a specific process but basically if you tie with someone the award will be based on head to head competition.  If you ran against your arch nemesis three times and beat him 2 out of 3 you will get the higher award.  If someone qualifies for an award in more than one series, participants in the series for which they do not get an award will be moved up.  It can get complicated so follow up if you want more details.

CLUB CHAMPS FAQ

I’m not fast.  How can I win an award?

One of the best things about the Champs is that you don’t have to be one of those guys you see coming past when you’re 30 minutes away from the South Shore turn around to win an award.  First, you compete only against people in the Champs in your own 5-year age group.  Strange as it may seem, at least temporarily, younger is often better.  The age groups under forty are some of the least full. Outliving the competition also works.  We have a 90+ age division in the short series for the first time this year!  Second, points are awarded for the first 7 finishers in each age group in a race.  Awards are on a total points basis.  This means a person who may not be terribly fast but runs more Strider races has a better chance for an award.   Most age groups go three deep in awards.  Age groups with more than ten participants go four deep in awards. Persistence, simply running more races than the fast guys, can get you an award. Points are awarded only to Striders that are enrolled in the Championships. You compete against only the people in the program so you don’t have to be a constant age-group winner to get points.  More races, more points, simple as that.

Do I need to register every year?

Anyone entered will be automatically entered in subsequent years.  I don’t need any email from participants unless something has changed in your personal information or you want to change the series you have entered.  Occasionally, runners who have not run Strider races for a year or two will be removed but anyone in this situation will be fully notified.

What age group will I compete in?

The program uses the age you are on July 1 for the ENTIRE year.  This simplifies the process greatly and puts everyone’s points in one slot.
