HELP US MAINTAIN THIS GEM OF VENICE HISTORY
Constructed in 1896 by entrepreneur Joseph Lord, the Lord-Higel House is the second oldest house in Sarasota County. Acquired by the City of Venice in 2005, Venice Heritage volunteers have raised more than $300,000 and invested thousands of hours to restore the exterior of the house to its original glory. In addition, Venice Heritage has funded construction of an Accessory building housing an ADA-approved bathroom and access ramp to the house. The City of Venice has committed funds to complete the interior of the house and hired a contractor.
VHI anticipates that additional funds may be needed to complete the interior work, as well as landscaping, exhibits, and future maintenance and improvements. Once completed, the first floor of the house will serve as an early settler museum and welcome center.
Venice Heritage Inc. (VHI) is a 501c3 organization based in Venice, Florida. The members are dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the greater Venice area.
