We decided to started the Ella Heart Strong Foundation because Ella’s heart disorder was unknown to us. We had no idea she had a heart problem. She had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and it was rare in how it presented itself in Ella’s heart. Even with a regular heart screening it could have been missed. So I felt it was so important to have AEDs (automatic external defibrillator) present wherever there were children and cardiovascular activities!!! To give some perspective on how important an AED is 9 out of 10 people in cardiac arrest which receive a shock from an AED within the first minute LIVE. This was very painful for me to digest, still is , but awareness and preparation lead to prevention. I thought about how many parents may be unaware like we were and this device can possibly save a life. So the money donated to the foundation goes to providing these life saving devices. Last year’s triathlon proceeds provided 2 AEDS for the Upper elementary school Ella would have attended and a gym facility. Please consider donating and supporting our local triathlon to bring awareness and to honor Ella’s memory.
