Camp Shelby Norwegian Foot March & 18.6 Mile Run

The Extra Miles Marathon is an invitation only marathon that is being held in conjunction with the Norwegian Foot March on March 4, 2023 at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center in Hattiesburg,MS.

First held in 1915 as a test of marching endurance for soldiers in the Norwegian Military. A strategic goal was to be able to move larger units of troops over a great distance swiftly and in a manner that enabled them to efficiently be combat ready even after the march (rucksack/weaponry of 11 kg).

The event consists of a 30 km march (18.6 miles) (march/run) with an 11 kg (25 lb) rucksack.

Servicemembers must wear their authorized military uniform. The uniform is to be within regulations at all times during the march. Participating civilians should wear proper civilian clothing, to include long trousers and boots. The rucksack/backpack is to be military grade and with contents is to weigh 25 pounds. Civilian participants can use a civilian version of rucksack.

Military Service members who complete the Foot March to time and uniform standards will receive the Marsjmerket badge that is authorized for wear on the Army Service Uniform.
