Autastic Extravaganza 2nd Annual Autism Awareness Event

Sat April 16, 2022 Farmville, NC 27828 US Directions

2nd Annual Autastic Extravaganza

The purpose of the event is to bring Autism acceptance and resources to the local community and beyond. According to the Autism Society of North Carolina, one in fifty-eight children in North Carolina has some form of autism. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental disability. The prevalence of autism in the United States has continued to steadily rise since 2000 and North Carolina has a higher-than-average rate.

As the parent of an autistic son, this cause and the need for acceptance and awareness is near and dear to my heart. My son, Ziggy, was diagnosed with Autism while attending preschool at Sadie Salter at the age of 3. The resources, trained professionals and EC programs were essential in helping Ziggy overcome several obstacles, prepare me for the associated behaviors and many of my questions about the disorder were answered. Now at 11 years old, Ziggy enjoys sports and games like his peers, he doesn’t have the speed or balance as his peers, but he can walk without assistance, he is now verbal and academically gifted. My reason for coordinating this Autastic Extravaganza as the proud mother/founder of Team Ziggy is very important because I want other families to know it's okay to be different, but with help and acceptance all dreams are possible.
