Linda Norgrove Foundation
The Linda Norgrove Foundation is a trust that gives grants to fund education, health, and childcare for women and children affected by the war in Afghanistan.
The Foundation was set up in memory of Scottish aid worker Linda Norgrove, who worked as a COP in Afghanistan. Linda was kidnapped and subsequently died during a failed rescue attempt in Afghanistan in October 2010. The Foundation was established by Linda’s parents to support her devotion to ensuring prosperity and stability for the people of Afghanistan during the country’s rebuilding process.
DAI organizes various annual fundraising events for the Linda Norgrove Foundation, including the Penny Wars, Workout Wear Day, and Happy Hour. These events culminate in the 5K Fun Run, which will be held on October 5th, 2019. This year, all funds raised by DAI will go toward supporting Rustam High School, a Hazara community school located in a remote part of Yakawlang province in central Afghanistan.
Rustam High School and is the only high school in the area with more girls than boys attending. These girls are attaining high academic standards and 92% of the children who are from mostly illiterate households have graduated and gone to university. The school is in desperate need of access to clean water, electricity resources, rugs, and general school supplies.
