Description

On Saturday September 1, 2012, eight-year-old Gabby Hrinda woke up around 7:30am with a headache, nausea and could not get out of bed.  When her parents realized she couldn't move the right side of her body, she was rushed to Forbes Regional Hospital and was then taken by helicopter to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.  Within hours, Gabby was in surgery.  Gabby had an aneurysm in her brain that ruptured, requiring three full blood replenishments.  Gabby has undergone several surgeries and is slowly recovering.   Although she is not expected to need any additional surgeries, she is still under the care of her neurosurgeon, where she receives cat scans and other testing.  Gabby now receives out-patient physical, occupational and speech therapy on a regular basis.  Gabby also needs an electro stim system (bioness) for her leg and arm to help her walk and open her hand.  The bioness system requires electrode pads that need replaced every 2 weeks.  Since these are considered "experimental", they are not covered by insurance and can be quite costly.

Gabby Is the daughter of Ed and Tanya Hrinda of White Oak and has four siblings: Andrew, Kate, Luke and John.  She is the granddaughter of Andy and Elaine Hrinda and Valerie Pompe.  Ed teaches for McKeesport HIgh School and Tanya works for Bed, Bath and Beyond in Monroeville.  Gabby attends Mon Yough Catholic School (formerly St Angela Merici) in White Oak.  Gabby enjoys playing softball and any activities with her friends.  The family attends St Angela Merici Parish where you can hear Gabby singing in the choir.

This Fun Run (or Walk) will help with on-going expenses the family accrued to keep Gabby moving forward with her recovery!
