Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run Cancelled Due to Severe Inclement Weather
Dear supporters,
We hope this message finds you well. We regret to inform you that, due to impending weather conditions and the decline in conditions we must cancel this year's 25th Annual 5k Walk/Run & Wellness Event scheduled for Saturday September 23, 2023. This decision has not been made lightly, and we understand the inconvenience it may cause to our participants and sponsors.
The safety and well-being of our participants, staff, and all involved in this event are our top priorities. The weather reports predict heavy rain, thunderstorms, flooding and high wind gusts that pose significant risks to the event's smooth execution and the safety of everyone attending.
For those who have pre-registered for themselves and their teams, we would appreciate your assistance in spreading this notice to all those who have planned to attend. If you have any questions or concerns about this event cancellation, please do not hesitate to call us at (267) 471-8686 for assistance.
Again, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding in these challenging circumstances. We understand your disappointment, and we share it with you. Our Warriors resilience, strength, and unwavering determination in the face of adversity are nothing short of inspiring. In celebration of September as Sickle Cell Awareness month, join the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Philadelphia /Delaware Valley Chapter for our 25th Annual Walter E. Brandon (W.E.B.) Sickle Cell 5K Walk-Run & Wellness Event, in partnership with AFSCME District Council 33! This annual walk/run - founded in 1998, in memory of our agency co-founder, Walter E. Brandon - serves as a platform to raise greater awareness about sickle cell disease and trait, along with the importance of continued sickle cell education and knowing your trait status. As we transition out of the global pandemic, we are delighted to provide the community with health resources you could use, from our community partners and supporters.
When you participate in our walk/run, you are advocating to bring greater attention to this "invisible" genetic disease. The W.E.B. Sickle Cell 5K is the perfect opportunity to encourage loved ones/family, friends, and your network to help advocate by walking/running in honor of those living with sickle cell disease and trait.
This year, our 25th Walter E. Brandon Sickle Cell 5K Walk/Run and Wellness event celebrates 25 years of bringing sickle cell awareness to the community!
Program will be as follows:
- 7:00am - Pre-Registration Check-ins / On-site registration
- 7:15am – Opening Ceremony
- 8:25am – Runners commence
- 8:30am – Walkers commence
- 10:00am - 12 Noon – Networking with Community Vendors/Entertainment/Refreshments
