Fundraising Tips

Thank you for fundraising on behalf of FosterAdopt Connect! Every dollar you raise will benefit foster and adopted children and their families. Partners like you make our work possible.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

1. Personalize Your Page

Share why you care! Your personal message will help your audience understand why foster care and adoption matters to you. We provide a short message to get you started, but if you add a personal touch you will connect more with your audience.

2. Craft Your Message(s)

Your emails/texts/posts don't need to be an essay or eloquently written. Above all, just be genuine. Start by letting your contacts know why you care and what you hope to accomplish. Then make a direct ask for financial support. Don't forget a link to your fundraising page!

You can also incorporate some facts/statistics:

  • More than 21,200 kids are in foster care between Kansas and Missouri.
  • On average, a child in foster care moves to a new home every 90 days.
  • The average age of a child in foster care is 9 years old.
  • More than half of kids in foster care will remain in care for more than a year.
  • One in five youth who age out of foster care will become instantly homeless.

3. Ask Close Contacts First

Start by sending a message to your closest friends and family asking them to support you. Since they already know you well, they're most likely to donate. This will give your fundraiser some momentum.

4. Ask Other Contacts

Send a message to anyone else you feel comfortable asking (colleagues, acquaintances, distant relatives, etc.). You never know--maybe you will find a shared passion for serving kids!

5. Share Your Fundraiser on Social Media

Sharing your fundraiser on social media will help you reach a broader audience. RunSignUp offers a service that will start a Facebook fundraiser on your behalf, and it will automatically sync with your fundraising page. No extra work on your part!

6. Follow Up

Reach back out to your friends, family, and other contacts who haven't responded to remind them of your goal and why you're fundraising. You can include a progress update and invite them to help you reach your goal. Social media is especially great--you can post a few times without overwhelming your audience.

7. Don't Forget to Thank Donors

Make sure to thank anyone who supports your fundraiser!
