New this year! The Marathon Relay!

Marathon Relay starts at 7:50am!

Please see attached PDF for detailed marathon relay information. Please read before race weekend!

It's time to grab your besties and sign up for the marathon relay! The relay is team division dividing the Marathon distance over five relay legs. The relay is an opportunity to run with friends and family, either competitively or just for the fun of it!

Groups of 2-5 individuals can put together a team and cover the marathon distance as a relay. Teams must have a minimum of two members and a maximum of five members. Each member must run one full leg. If you have less than 5 members, you may combine legs to complete the marathon distance, but you MUST RUN CONSECUTIVE LEGS if you are running more than one leg.

For example, a team of 2 can split it up into 2 legs and 3 legs or 3 legs and 2 legs. The first runner would run the first 2 legs and the second runner would run the last 3 legs or the other way around.  It doesn't matter which runner does which legs as long as they are consecutive. Once you are done, you are done.

There are five relay legs of varying distances from 2 to 7.25 miles (distances are approximate), as follows:
Leg 1:  7.5 miles     Port Orchard Waterfront Park (start) to Hilldale Aid Station - includes loop through Manchester State Park
Leg 2:  6.45 miles   Hilldale Aid Station to Harper Park  (leg 2 hands off to leg 3 BEFORE the turnaround on Olympiad. Leg 3 must run up Olympiad to turnaround                                  and back down to Beach Drive, passing the relay exchange area and continuing on to Downtown Manchester)
Leg 3:  4.7 miles        Harper Park to Downtown Manchester
Leg 4:  2 miles        Downtown Manchester to Hilldale Aid Station
Leg 5:  5.9 miles        Hilldale Aid Station to FINISH!

TEAM DIVISIONS

Open Male - all male team, any age

Open Female - all female team, any age

Mixed - Male/Female, any ages. Must include at least one female and one male

Military - All military, retired or current

The first team member (Team Captain)  to sign up will pay the team price listed and choose the team name (can be modified later) and team type (Male, Female, Mixed, Military*).  IMPORTANT:  If you are a team captain who registers a team and you DO NOT want it open for anyone to join except by invitation, you must set a password. Only those with a password can then join your team. If you do not set a password, anyone can choose to join your team.  You may change your team name after signing up. You may not change your relay category.

All other team members will not be charged for registration. *Military will receive a discount of $25.  Your team captain can collect your fee directly from you. They have paid for the entire team. If you are joining a team, be sure you know the team name and the password, if the Team Captain has made one.  Please note:  you will be charged if you purchase any additional merchandise or other item, for example, VIP Parking.  You will not be charged for joining an existing team.

Each team will receive the same bib number, and it doesn’t matter which team member wears which bib (though bibs are personalized by name for those who register before November 5). Bibs should be worn on the front and be clearly visible.

IMPORTANT!  There will be a lane closure from Bay Street near HI-Tide Tavern - end/beginning of pedestrian trail, all the way to Hilldale.  ALL relay runners and drivers need to take ALTERNATE ROUTES to avoid the lane closure.  ALL RELAY EXCHANGES take place outside of the lane closure.

The HILLDALE AID STATION RELAY EXCHANGE could have the most difficulty due to the lane closure (think construction back ups!). Please plan to arrive at your exchange an HOUR earlier than anticipated at this relay exchange point.  All other relay exchange points shouldn't be affected by the lane closure.

Because the marathon relay will add additional need for volunteers on race day, we ask that each team provide one volunteer during the event. You can find volunteer opportunities here:  VOLUNTEER INFORMATION HERE
