Points Challenges to Earn Extras

When we realized we were going to need to convert the debut series to a virtual experience, we didn't want to lose the fun of interacting with racers or the joy of challenges. We came up with several activity options for participants whether they are local or not! Now that we are doing in-person races only, rather than earn points and guaranteed extras, racers can participate in challenges to earn raffle tickets for chances to win prizes on race day. The challenges for each race will be added as the race weekend nears. 

You must be pick up your prizes on race days. Unclaimed prizes will be donated to volunteers or otherwise used.

2022 Update: We plan to offer Earned Extras again, but there may be some changes to exactly how they work. For now, you can see what the format has been up to this point.

Points Challenge

1. Who can earn points? Anyone registered for our races can play along with the corresponding race's points challenge and earn extras.
2. What do I do with points? After the race, the RD will summarize everyone’s points and publish a survey for Earned Extras selection. You will then select a goodie from the Earned Extra tier(s) for which you qualify! (If you don't pick, she'll randomly pick for you.) Points are not spent, they are redeemed cumulatively, so you if you have enough points for two tiers, you get two prizes. If you have enough points for something from every tier, you can continue to accumulate points and start all over with the first tier, Chopped Chives. Max of two prizes per tier; racers exceeding 500 points will get one or more surprises of the RD’s choice.
3. What are the Earned Extras tiers? The tier names always change, but the points don't. Below are the tiers for June Jaunt and The Potato Run.

Let's Get Nutty: 100 points 
Awesome Sauce: 150 points

4. What are the Earned Extras? A mix of useful and fun things! Earned Extras are cumulative! (I.E. If you have 50 points, you get something from Chopped Chives, something from Buttered Up, and something from Sour Cream.) If you hit Mammoth Spuds, you can start all over again to earn even more goodies. We change them up from time to time to keep things fresh and to correspond with the feel/theme/price point of each race.

Buttered Up: LA Fresh Stop Bugging Me Insect Repellant, LA Fresh Body Soother, DawnMist Shaving Cream, or a Elastic Hair Tie (with Metal Connector)
Sour Cream: Individual size Gatorade Lemon-Lime packet, Propel (Assorted Flavors), Skippy Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter & Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams Squeeze Pack, Zero° K Cooling and Cleansing Wipe, Nivea Soft Moisturizing Creme, or Moist 8 x 8 Cotton Towels (Lavender, Lemon, Mango-Peach, or Unscented, for cold or hot use)
Spudlings: A single size Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel, Curel Daily Healing Original Lotion, Charmin To Go Toilet Seat Covers, Gold Bond Powder, Sports Beans, or random sports gels
Salt Potatoes: Pocket pedicure kit, toenail clipper, Heat Factory Adhesive Toe Warmer, Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Cream, Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Cream and Cleanser, Cucumber Facial Mask, or RunGoo packet
Potato Medley: Chance of a $5 gift card from Wegmans, Tops, or Similar Item. (Three to be awarded.)
Mammoth Spuds: Chance of a Sponsor/Presenter Gift (from JBRD Apparel, Foot Kinetics, and Obatron Fitness).
5. Sounds fun! What do I do to earn points? There are 15+ activities you can do! Some you can do more than once or have more than one component. A few can't be done until race day while others can be done right now, and a couple will be scheduled for throughout the next several days.

6. Submit Recipe? Um, Why? This race and the series was always meant to be food focused. Since we can't eat together, I want potato recipes, which would fit in with the race theme! Two categories: Vegan and Non-Vegan! 

After we collect all the recipes, I'll offer participants a chance to vote on their favorites from each category. The winners will get a recipe contest bonus. All registrants will get a PDF of the recipe book for free! (Likely 4-6 weeks after the race.)

7. How do I submit my images, scavenger hunt images, and anything else to earn points? Great question!

Posts of Flat Racer, Enter Race Finish Time, Your Race Route, In Race Pic, Race Report, Bib Image, , TPR Finish Line Photo, Memorable Moment, and Motivational Signage Image: On race weekend, I will start a post for each of those that is specific to each race and all general individual posts will be made a couple of days before and after each race . 8. I'm not racing. Can I earn points? No. Only those registered for each individual race get points for participating for the corresponding race. Points are racer participation gifts (Earned Extras). However, if you play along and then register, let us know and we'll see if we can verify any posts where you would have earned points.
